Emirates Team New Zealand
Project Description
A recently completed alteration to the Moller Architects designed Viaduct Events Centre to transform the existing facility into the new base for Emirates Team New Zealand for the America’s Cup defence AC 36. The original design of the building as the then entitled ‘Marine Events Centre ‘with its big flexible spaces and multiple use levels, has been ideal in the adaptation to a working boathouse and team base.
The 50 x 30 x 15 metre high exhibition space is now a highly organised technical workspace for two yachts and related container technical workshops and gantries, together with a new mezzanine sail loft and new large access doors to the wharf curtilage and Viaduct harbour jetties.
The Southern zone has gymnasium, ETNZ retail shop, and innovation performance centre, and the upper levels comprise hospitality suites, design studios and administration.
Team graphics will soon wrap the exterior glass cladding and the winning AC35 yacht will fly off the VEC frontage to Karanga Plaza, complete with the cycle grinder equipment.
