House at Black Rock
Project Description
The guest house is located on the edge between the cliff that runs along the foreshore at Black Rock and the waters edge on a site between Milford Beach and Takapuna Beach. The guest house is designed to take advantage of the close proximity to the sea with sea views to the east towards Rangitoto Island and to the south towards St Heliers.
The living dining and kitchen areas are located on the ground floor with an outdoor terrace providing a private space for outdoor living while private from the public walkway. The bedroom and bathroom are on the upper floor to encompass broader views with a deck to provide for outdoor space and entry to the upper level
The house is clad in a mixture of stained Lawson Cypress timber battens with a zinc roof on a plastered concrete block base. Igneous rock is used for the landscape walls The grounds have been landscaped to regenerate the ground cover and enhance the existing Pohutakawa tree on the site
